I recently heard a story from an acquaintance whose dryer stopped working properly, and the cause turned out to be a completely clogged vent. Turns out they had never cleaned it at all in 5 years! This was a red flag for me, since I have two kids at home and run the dryer almost daily. I don't want to risk safety due to inattention. I'm wondering how often it's even worth cleaning and if there's any way to check the condition of the vent myself?

My family and I have lived in the house for 15 years, and never once in that time have we done a dryer vent cleaning. Yes, I know it's not the right thing to do. We contacted a special service that deals with dryer vent cleaning https://comfortclean.com/dryer-vent-cleaning/ only when we noticed the overheating of the machine, and it was a signal to act. The guys were real masters: they not only cleaned the vent, but also gave advice on future maintenance. Now I will contact them from time to time and will not repeat past mistakes.
