Hello, forum members. Has anyone used the cost calculator on the NationalMovers website? My wife and I are in the process of planning a move from Seattle to Austin, and we would like to somehow figure out in advance how much it might cost, so that there are no surprises later. I came across their "Average Moving Cost Calculator", it seems convenient - you enter where from, where to, approximate volume, and it immediately gives you a price. But how do you know how realistic it is? Has anyone checked how much it matches the actual costs in the end? It would be great to hear feedback, especially from those who have moved interstate.

I also tried this calculator when I was looking for options for moving from Boston to Philadelphia. I agree - it's a convenient thing, but you definitely shouldn't take it as a final price. Although in general it's nice that you can at least roughly understand the range of prices.
Yes, I used the calculator on the NationalMovers website this summer when I was moving from Chicago to Denver. I’ll say right away that their average moving cost calculator is quite clear and at least helps you get your bearings, but you should treat it as a preliminary estimate, not a final price. Why? I’ll explain from my own experience. When I filled out the form — selected the cities, the size of the apartment (I had a two-room apartment), indicated that I needed help with packing and disassembling the furniture — the calculator gave me a sum of about $3,800. The sum seemed reasonable, especially compared to what other companies quoted me over the phone ($4,500 and up, with no guarantee of the final price). After that, I left a request, and a manager called me literally within an hour. We went over all the details: how many boxes, how much large equipment, is there an elevator, is a temporary warehouse needed. After clarification, the sum changed slightly — to $4,050, but that was a more accurate offer. In the end, when the move itself took place, I paid exactly the amount that was announced after the call. That is, the calculator gave me a good guideline, but only after talking to the manager did everything become 100% clear. The move itself went well, by the way. They arrived on time, the guys were polite, loaded everything carefully, arrived without delays. I can say that for me the calculator is more of a way to weed out unsuitable companies and figure out whether it is worth contacting them at all. And another plus is that you can play with the parameters: for example, see how much it will cost with and without packaging, with a full turnkey move or partial. You can learn more on their website.
